Bill Crutchfield
The Crutchfield Story

Bill Crutchfield (William G. Crutchfield, Jr.) was born in Charlottesville, graduated from the University of Virginia in 1965, and served as an officer in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  In 1974, with only $1,000 in capital, he founded Crutchfield Corporation in his mother's basement.  Since then, Crutchfield Corporation has grown into one of the nation's largest specialty direct retailers. In 2022, Virginia Business ranked it as the 18th largest privately-owned company in the state.  Based on its superior level of customer satisfaction, Crutchfield has received BizRate Insight’s highly coveted Platinum Circle of Excellence Award for the past twenty-two consecutive years.  From over 4,700 online retailers surveyed, Crutchfield is the only one that has achieved this distinction.  Other prestigious rating services have rated the company as the number one online consumer electronics retailer in the nation.

In 2021, the magazine listed Bill as one of the 500 most powerful Virginians.
