Sharon Stone (The Free Book Bus)
Books for Free, Impact beyond Measure

Sharon Stone, Director of The Free Book Bus

Sharon has collected children's books for years. Some of her favorites are antique editions of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Sharon manages the daily operations, fundraising, and the online presence for the bus.

Derrick Stone, Co-Director

Derrick, a manager of software development at the UVA Health System, does much of the mechanical work on the bus, built all of the interior shelves and is excited to continue driving the bus to events. Some of his favorite childhood books were Cars and Trucks and Things That Go by Richard Scarry and War of The Worlds.

The mission of The Free Book Bus is to enable all children to have a home library, regardless of income. We currently serve the Charlottesville, Albemarle, Nelson, and surrounding areas. As a secondary mission, we attend public events to encourage reading for all. The Bus gives away new and gently used books at places like food pantries, schools, public events, and aftercare programs. The organization was granted non-profit status in November of 2018.

We will be sharing a brief history of The Free Book Bus, our thoughts on the impact of the printed book, and what we have learned while bringing the bus to various stops in the area.
