The Rotary Club of Charlottesville helped sponsor the prizes for another Gingerbread Christmas.
Under the auspices of the Downtown Business Association of Charlottesville, the Virginia Gingerbread Christmas and the Mother of Gingerbread, Morgan, thank the Rotary Club of Charlottesville for their sponsorship of the 10th Annual VGBC cash prize awards with a $750 donation. Peyton Ledford donated cash and Brad Bodager thru the Miller School also donated funds for the event. Many Rotarians from this club provided invaluable volunteer help:
Our own Mayor of Charlottesville, Satyendra Huja was one of the five judges of the Gingerbread contest.
Michael Semanik and Joe Cantu volunteered many hours playing Santa Claus to hundreds of kids at the Omni. Joe was however forced to be with Miss Virginia USA and Miss Junior Teen Virginia greeting the kids and handing out cookies. Michael also got to ride the old Antique Charlottesville fire truck as he helped provide Santa Claus and candy for the kids at the Grand Illumination. Michael enlisted, again this year, his Elf helper Trish.
John McCauley helped decorate and monitor visitors to the Gingerbread Wonderland.
Jay Cruse was stellar. He gave countless days and hours starting with the Grand Illumination, and every day of the preparation receiving houses, moving houses to the Preston Room, decorating the Wonderland, monitoring the visitors, moving the Gingerbread houses to the Gingerbread Trail businesses on the downtown Mall carrying them by hand, and putting away decoration in preparation for the Mrs Claus Invites and Award ceremony this Thursday. Whew!! That’s six full days of Service Above Self! Thanks a million Jay.
The Mrs Claus Invites event and the St Nicholas Awards reception was held Dec 12th at the Omni. Ted Horn , as President elect, represented our rotary Club handing out the awards, again accompanied by Miss Virginia USA. Jim Peterson volunteered his camera to video record the Mrs Claus Invites ceremonies.
Santa’s #1 Elf was Rotarian, Jim Perkins. Jim helped with receiving houses, the voting recording, PR, and many other tasks too numerous to mention. Mother of Gingerbread awards Jim a Bravo Zulu!
