The motto of Rotary International has long been "Service above Self", which demonstrates an individuals desire to put the needs of others above his or her own desires. The Rotary Club of Charlottesville Citizen of the Year Award is given in recognition of a non-Rotarian living in Charlottesville or the surrounding area who exemplifies these values in their personal and professional life. We wish to honor those who significantly contribute to improving our community, whether through local, national, or international contributions.
To be considered for the award, all nominees must fit the following criteria:
- Exemplifies “Service Above Self” in their personal and professional life
- Contributed significantly to improving the quality of life in our community
- Demonstrated leadership on a community issue resulting in the enhancement of community life
- Works closely with local partners to develop sustainable solutions to community challenges
